Notes from the March 4 meeting

Thank you to all who were able to make tonight's meeting!

A brief summary of what was covered:

!. Tours of the Girl Scout Council are about one hour, free and they are in Westfield. You can earn a Junior badge or for other levels you could get a fun patch. Call our membership specialist if interested - Christine Enrico 232-3236 Ext 1227

2. Cookies - will be coming in the afternoon of March 18th - please have somone ready to pick up your troop cookies - leader, cookie mom/dad or someone. They must be picked up that afternoon at the Hetfield House otherwise poor Kathy will never get to eat dinner.

3. Library showcase is done and looking quite nice - drop by and check it out.

4. Father/Daughter dance -3/14 - we are still in need of a microphone and a boom box to play a CD on PLEASE contact Mary if you can help out here.

5. Easter Basket donations - Karen Sforza will be accepting full baskets or the makings of baskets (candy, small toys, bubbles, trinkets, etc) Please contact her.

6. Clean Communities day will be held for Girl Scouts the weekend of April 11-13th. You will be given an area to clean up with your troop. It usually takes and hour or so. It is a service to the community and a great activity for the girls. You can do it ANYTIME that weekend that fits into your schedule. Please contact Karen Sforza to let her know if your troop will participate and about how many people - parents and siblings are more than welcomed.

7. Encampment training - we need to get some people trained for ropes course April 5th 2-5 PM at Camp Hoover - this can be a leader, a mom - or a DAD, we also need a waterfront person - how many people per boat, where the life jackets are kept , etc. this training can be done in Westfield at the council. Please think about it - it will be much easier if we have this training in place this year. Of anyone is interested please contact MARY.

8. Recruitment of Daisys and other new scouts. Suzanne and Patti volunteered to help put out the info for Daisys in the orientation packets and Rec newsletter. We will also be asking if there are any other older girls out there interested in joining a troop.

8 1/2. Memorial Day Parade - Suzanne handed out some bald cuts outs that will be transformed into wonderful scout people which will be sewn on to a lovely banner by Carol. The parade will be May 26th, we will probably meet at about 8 AM in the Lord and Taylor parking lot. We will march together, everyone who has a white scout shirt should wear it or a plain white shirt - or whatever appropriate attire the leader decides. Comfy sneakers are suggested - it is a fairly long walk. Red, white and blue ribbons in hair, etc - would be great. Every scout should wear her vest or sash pinned in place. If troops would like to throw out small pieces of candy into the crowd -that is fine. It is up to each leader to decide how many adults she wants with the troop - as long as it meets safety-wise. Jenny Disko had found out that we may join the cub scouts later on for their picnic - more info will follow.

9. Court of Awards - once again Kitty has been kind enough to organize this for June 12th at OLL. If your troop is bridging, has earned its 5 or 10 year pin, community service award let her know. The fee is $10 per troop. A flyer will be available on our website.

10. Year end financial reports - they are simple, short and mandatory. They are due June 15th to Heather - you may use the May bank statement. More info will follow but I just want you to know that every troop must hand one in or their troop account will be put on hold - this is for everyone's protection.

12. Website - we will be trying to put a section on where you can list whatever leftover art supplies you have and are willing to give to another troop.

13. Mountainside Scout shirts - new ones will be ordered next year but no longer in white- most likely in royal blue with white lettering - silk screened for the scouts and embroidered for the leaders.

14. Event reports - if you ran an event please put together a brief folder so the person running it next time will have some helpful do's and don'ts.

15. Event planning for next year - a few people will be meeting to map out the events and dates for next year. We will try to not have everything on Friday nights. Please contact Mary this week if you would like to be on this committee.

16. The next leader's meeting is May 20th (we will not meet in April)

If you have any questions, comments or good jokes please send them my way.
Good night Ladies,
Mary
